Petition Letter
Dear Assoicates Dean,
I am writing to you today to request to waive the 21 day deadline to hear an appeal to waive the requirement to withdraw for a year. I missed the 21 day deadline because I misunderstood what the University's Ombudsman, Gail MacAllister, had told me. I was out of the country and I had a scheduled skype appointment with her. From what I understood in our conversation, I had to write an appeal to the Board of Studies as a continuation from my first appeal to ask them to waive the requirement to withdraw for a year. I had sent this second appeal to the Board of Studies within the deadline, Monday June 12th 2017. Had I known I had to send this appeal through the Associates Dean, I would have sent it to them instead and would have met the deadline. I understand that I should have realized that I am requesting something else and that would require a new appeal starting from the first level but at that time I was dealing with a lot of stress and some family problems, I was in the process of getting help for my anxiety and it was too soon for the medication to take affect. Since then I have been taking medication to reduce my symptoms and am seeing someone on a weekly basis. I am now able to think more clearly and more reasonably. With feeling better as time goes on, I will be able to avoid making shortsighted mistakes such as sending my appeal to the wrong level of appeal.
Please consider my appeal, I would like to be given another opportunity. I have put a lot of time and effort and energy into overcoming my academic situation.
