Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing my Third Year academics at Queen¿¿s University, both the fall (2016) and winter (2017) terms if possible.
The extenuating circumstances I faced that interfered with my studies included my increasing struggles with depression. I have been struggling with it for the last few years, but this was the year it fully consumed me. I had a hard time focusing on anything, especially my grades. Due to some unforeseen personal events compounded with my mental health, I reached an all-time low. I lost the motivation and ability to do anything to further my studies; I suddenly did not see the point in myself or putting anything towards my future. My living situation I was in was not ideal either, and although I thought removing myself from it was the best decision, living on my own did not improve my situation. It got so bad that I ended up in the hospital and in group therapy. It was hard enough to think of taking care of myself, let alone my academic prosperity.
