Petition Letter
To the Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing to switch one of my courses for the fall term, essentially dropping one and adding another. I wish to drop KNPE 153, Introductory Biomechanics, and instead enroll in GNDS 120, Women, Gender, Difference. Doing so would require a switch in my lecture time for PSYCH 100, Principles of Psychology.
There are several reasons why I wish to switch courses, as well as reasons why I was not able to do the switch prior to the deadline of this past Friday, September 23.
On September 14, I was informed by my mother that my Aunt had been incarcerated. Since learning this, I have spent most of my time out of class at home with my family for emotional support, as well as for the comfort of my eight-year-old and twelve-year-old cousins. The stress of this situation has made it difficult for me to find worth in one of the current courses I am enrolled in, which leads to the first reason why I am wishing to switch.
Prior to being notified of knowledge of my Aunt, I was having tremendous doubts as to whether Kinesiology was a suitable program for me, due to both my interests and goals. In addition to finding my Introductory Biomechanics course exceedingly difficult, I have come to realize that I also have no passion for this subject field. Further, spending significant instructional hours and study hours on this course has led me to believe that in fact Kinesiology may not be my niche.
Further, my interest in social sciences, along with being queer, has propelled me to look into taking GNDS 120. Nevertheless, my growing intent to switch courses was occurring in tandem to spending vast amounts of time at home (in Ottawa) over the past few weeks. As a result, I have been extremely removed from important notices and information that has been spread to my fellow students, as I have only just discovered that the add/drop date passed three days ago.
Furthermore, please thoroughly consider this request, as this decision will create a hugely positive impact on my life, through allowing me to further embrace the intellectual journey of my choosing, as well as relieve the stress of having to take a course that I abhor.
