Petition Letter
To the Dean and Associate Deans at Queen¿¿s University,
I am requesting to waive the 21-day or one term deadline in order to submit another appeal that allows me to request a credit standing (CR) in two courses during the winter term of 2017 (ASTR 102 and BIOL 103). To be quite honest, I was not aware that I could have requested a credit standing in the first place as my grades in the winter semester were not adequate for my standings. During the fall and winter semester of 2017, I had to travel every two or three weeks back to Toronto in order to visit my mother who is ill and has polio. Over the course of the year, her conditions have gotten worse and my concerns for her have increased gradually throughout the year. Due to the increasing concern for my mother, I would not have time to prepare myself efficiently for most of my summative assignments and/or exams since I had to travel back and forth and focus most of my time to my mother. This explains why I had to request a letter of permission (LOP) during the summer of 2017 because at that point in time, my family doctor had requested that I should be a caregiver to my mother and allow me to complete my degree in Toronto (Document attached) because my mother¿¿s illness has gotten worse. The LOP would allow me to keep myself busy with my studies while I took care of my mother and think of a future plan because at that time, I had to make a quick decision during a very stressful time.
These past two years have been incredibly difficult and stressful for me but, I will not give up and I will earn my degree. Currently, my GPA is at a mere 1.74 and I am certain that this mark is not a representation of my true potential. My future plan is to transfer to either Ryerson or York university in order to finish my degree (Chemistry) however, with the GPA that I have presently, I do not qualify for the admission requirements in both universities. This is why I am requesting to waive the 21-day or one term deadline, in order to submit my second appeal and request a credit standing (CR) in two courses that I have done fairly poor on. Hopefully, if my request for a credit standing (CR) is granted, my GPA would increase sufficiently in order to apply to universities in Toronto and ultimately, allow me to earn my undergraduate degree.
