Petition Letter
Dear Jill Atkinson,
I am appealing to drop CISC124 (Fall, 2017) past the drop deadline, due to extenuating
circumstances. At the beginning of the year, I was diagnosed with long standing depression
and prescribed antidepressants (I am attaching a note from my doctor). After being on
medication for a couple of months, I am not sure that they are the solution for me. I am still in
the process of adapting to this new challenge. I have already had to drop two of my
computing courses this semester, in an attempt to concentrate on the remaining three. I found
it difficult to keep up with CISC124 as it is a course with weekly assignments or quizzes,
which meant constant demand. I have recently started exercising everyday, and I find that it
is just as good or better for my mental health as taking medication. Moving forward, I would
like to retake the course as I believe that if I concentrate on just one computing course from
the beginning of the term, I will be able to complete it successfully. I got a B on the
prerequisite course (CISC121), so I expect to achieve a similar mark on CISC124. I am very
passionate about my studies and will continue to work hard to succeed in my program.
