Petition Letter
This entire semester, I have experienced significant anxiety and difficulties surrounding my academics due to my depression. I was officially diagnosed by a doctor in December, and began medication for the condition in January, as it states on my verification of illness form completed by the same doctor. Getting work done, making important decisions, and falling behind in my classes have all led to a large amount of stress and anxiety for me this term due to my underlying mental health impairments, which prevent me from achieving a normal level of learning.
I do not believe I will be capable of completing PHYS 106 this year, and have previously reached out to my professor about retaking the course in the future. The other day when I was planning on dropping the course, I began to experience distress regarding my academics as well as the finances wasted by dropping the course at this point in the year, which made it difficult to take action on the matter.
I am requesting to drop the course this semester not only because I do not believe I will be successful, but also because remaining in the course will continue to put excessive strain on my mental health. My health ultimately is more important to me than my academics, as I cannot be successful in university and life beyond without good health.
My attached verification of personal health condition, filled out by my general physician at student health and wellness, states that my quantity of academic work should be significantly reduced, so I would ask that you please allow me to withdraw from the class so I can focus on returning to full health and being successful and the other courses I'm enrolled in this semester.
Thank you
