Petition Letter
Please contact my instructor for a better understanding of the situation.
I need to focus on recovering from Anorexia Nervosa after relapsing last September 2017.
I had been on a waiting list for Toronto General Hospital's Eating Disorder Unit for 4 months.
I am waiting to start a 12 week, full-time, daytime treatment program.
In the mean time it is imperative that I focus on trying to restore my health on my own, without any external pressures/work/life obligations hindering me.
I am not well, physically (underweight), and mentally.
I managed to obtain decent grades in the course so far, but it is at the further expense of my physical and mental health and was only manageable to this degree because I am not working at this time). But what this looks like is, not eating, not being able to keep up with basic things like house chores, and getting through it while anxious and depressed, and utterly exhausted. I am not functioning normally right now, and my priority needs to be taking care of myself on a basic level. I have not been working since January 2017 and have applied for EI sick benefits in order to undergo treatment.
This is a hard decision to make; I have wanted to finish my degree and write you today for the same reason I was unable to finish as an undergrad student 2004-2007.
I had decided to come back finally as I was feeling well and could fund my own studies but then I experienced a total decline in health, followed by extenuating life circumstances/changes/transitions and a traumatic event.
This ended in relapse, and I still tried to resume my goal of finishing my degree after delaying my original plans to return to studies starting with a course in July 2017.
It has been very difficult to think rationally and get help along the way while trying to survive.
I am unable to continue at this time, as it will further distract me from taking care of my mental health and restoring my basic physical health first and foremost.
