Appeal Letter ¿¿ Aegrotat Estimated Grade
To the Associated Dean

I am appealing to the Faculty to receive a Aegrotat: Estimated Grade (AG Request) for the course MUSC 475: Video Game Music (Spring 2018) that is taught by Dr. Stephanie Lind.
The reason why I am appealing for this AG request is because on February 21st over reading week my little brother (we were triplets) committed suicide by shooting himself on my parent¿¿s ranch in Florida (death certificate is attached). Danny (the brother) was a transgender male who had previously attended Queens University in the Commerce program when he was Anastasia Megan, he graduated at the top of his class. Because of this I was called down to the ranch to help support my parents for the body arrangements and mental stress, I ended up missing the first week of school back from reading week. Due to this when I finally did get back into school I had many large assignments that I had to catch up on, most of which I have had difficulty in doing due to my current mental state. Unfortunately, MUSC 475 contains a large midterm with a speaking/presentation element as well as a large written portion and it was not completed. With finals and other summative assignments starting up next week and my weekends being dominated by pre-assigned concerts I find that I do not have the time to complete the Midterm for MUSC 475 given my current academic workload and personal struggles with my brother¿¿s death. However, I am set to graduate at the end of this semester and I need this credit to complete my degree, thus why I am appealing for a AG request. My struggles are affecting my performance in my other classes as well as this one, but all of them have relatively spread out assignment that were mostly completed earlier in the term or are assigned to be completed in the next two weeks. I had to prioritize what assignments I completed first and unfortunately MUSC 475 ended up being the one I got to last (other assignments were due sooner that I did not have extensions for). I am still struggling with my brother¿¿s death, some days I find it impossible to get out of bed while others I find myself in random crying fits that cause me to leave class early. I have tried reaching out to councilors but I find them to be of no help. This will affect me for a long time, but I do need to graduate this year, so passing this class and receiving credit for it is a must.
Should this appeal be granted it would allow me to re-organize me schedule and free up time that I can use to focus on the larger final assignment for this class (a 2000-word paper). Furthermore, it would also give me more time to focus on the final summative assignments for my other classes as well, it would take off quite a bit of pressure. I have already applied and been accepted to another academic institute for this coming fall so graduating from Queens is a must. I have no doubt that if I am given this appeal I will be able to complete the other up-coming assignments and final exams to complete this goal.
