Petition Letter
My name is Jonah Buckstein, and I am a first year science student. I am currently taking Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Calculus, and Psychology. I have recently made the decision to drop Physics, as I do not feel the same connection with it, nor possess the passion necessary to thrive in that particular course. I am an extremely devoted and dedicated student, and I very much wish to continue with a full course load. I am very interested in the subject of Astronomy, as I have several friends in the class who have articulated only excellent reviews. I understand that I am 3-4 weeks behind, but I am a voraciously quick reader and learner, and I am extremely willing to put in the time necessary to catch up with the course, be that with lecture videos, tutorial sessions, or anything else. As excellent a Teacher as Prof. Topper is for Physics, I find myself conceptually lost, and feel as though I do not understand Physics on a fundamental level that will hinder me for the remainder of the year. I am weighed down by Physics, it is affecting my performance in all of my other classes due to worry and stress for it at all times. I want to focus on what I truly love learning, and that is Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology. I love Science, and do wish to pursue it as my future, and Astronomy holds an allure for me that Physics simply does not. I have already put in several hours of work, typing up notes for the Chapters I miss, on the chance I am accepted. I believe I am extremely capable of not only catching up, but excelling in Astronomy if but given the chance.
Thank you for your consideration,
Jonah
