Petition Letter
I am writing this appeal letter with the request of dropping a course - RELS 212 - after the academic deadline. The reason for my appeal is a psychological issue I've been facing since reading week, when a large component of this course was scheduled.
I had been experiencing severe conditions since around mid-February, including depression, anxiety and hallucinations. I had also been prescribed medication by my physician here at Queen¿¿s, which unfortunately did not help the conditions. Recently my physician had indicated that she will send in a referral to the psychiatrist for a diagnosis of psychosis. Furthermore, I have been suffering depression and anxiety ever since I lost two friends to a terrorist attack in my neighbourhood back home in Bangladesh.
Unfortunately, the timing of the peak of my condition coincided with a large component of my RELS 212 course. The midterm was scheduled over the reading week break when my psychosis symptoms started to surface. As a result, I was unable to complete this (and I had been in touch with my professor about it too), as well as the subsequent tests. In view of this, and after receiving advice and support from the professor for this course, I decided to appeal to drop the course past the academic deadline. I hope you can take into consideration my current circumstances and allow me to drop the course. Please do let me know if I am required to provide further information or documentation. I have attached a letter from my physician.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my appeal. I look forward to hearing back from you.
