Petition Letter
To: The Associate Dean
I am writing to appeal for a Credit Standing in EMPR 220. I took the online course in the fall of 2017.
I experienced extenuating circumstances during that time, beyond my control. This included severe stress and anxiety in which I sought professional help through a personal therapist in Toronto and a doctor through Student Wellness Services. This was the first time I have felt the physical symptoms of stress and anxiety. I am unable to attend some classes and did not put a significant amount of time into EMPR as I was focusing on improving my mental health. Throughout the semester I travelled home to Toronto on numerous occasions and was unable to focus on my school work. EMPR 220 was an online class and I struggled with some of the assignments specifically the exam. I took a full course load this semester by taking five courses and only two of them had a final exam, scheduled during the official exam period. One of them being EMPR 220. My symptoms worsened during the exam season and I was unable to effectively study due to the physical systems I endured.
As for my future plans, this past winter semester I took more classes that were required for my degree plan and took no electives. I also sought extra help from professors and TAs throughout the semester. Additionally, I learned new strategies that have effectively helped me gain some control of my anxious feelings.
With thanks,
Jack
