Petition Letter
Towards the end of the 2017 Fall semester, in November, I lost a dear friend in Dubai in a car accident. At the time I was shocked by this news and I did not know any means of dealing with this loss. As a result of this, my academic performance was greatly affected as I was not able to attend many of my lectures. Frequent migraines, insomnia and nausea prevented me from participating in class activities and group assignments, as I grew continuously ill. As a result of this, I was missing notes and lacked knowledge from class discussions. I tried to attend as many lectures as I could, however, it was not enough. I did not consult a doctor, I only used medicine available to me. At the time, I received some comfort from another close friend who was able to attend her funeral and I continue to receive support from my family.
Since I am home for the summer, I have had enough time to talk to those who were with her. This has brought me much comfort and closure. I will take this time to mourn and heal and I strongly believe that this will not take away from my academics any further.
