Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
My name is Haaya Rizvi (10125309). I am a distant student at Queens University and I am majoring in Global Development Studies. I am writing to you with regards to my academic standing. I am appealing the Faculty¿¿s decision that I must withdraw from Queen¿¿s for a minimum of three years. I understand I have not met the requirements as for my academic standing but I have made a far better improvement and achievement during the year. I have raised my GPA to some extent. I assure you that I will raise my GPA even higher. Over the years I tried to stay focused on my education and studies but there were drastic life events that occurred during my study period and my goals were not being met. I started my online degree in 2014 and faced a lot of unnecessary issues during this period. My father was giving me a hard time during this time period. He emotionally, physically and verbally abused me during this time. I come from a very strict household so I did not do much but tolerate his ways. My father got me married in January 2015. I was doing considerably well the during the fall 2014 semester but things took a turn again after I got married which was January 2015. I suffered a miscarriage and issues erupted between me and my husband. Because of all the issues happening I was unable to complete my courses from the winter 2015 semester. I eventually moved to the United Kingdom and did my best to support my husband as well study at the same time. We had severe marital issues which almost led to divorce. I was emotionally drained and depressed. I had no support from my parents and my husband as well as my in laws hated me. In summer of 2015, I was dealing with a lot of health issues and had to continuously go back and forth to the hospital and GP to get checked. I was getting treatment done in the meantime. I ended up getting pregnant around the fall of 2015. I had to drop my courses due to my increasing health issues. My pregnancy was really distressing and tough due to lack of emotional and financial support from my husband. I also fainted twice and was physically weak during this time. In January 2016, my husband sent me back to Canada to live with my parents because ¿¿He could not afford to have me¿. I lived with my parents and they were taking responsibility of my health and pregnancy. Because my father did not get along too well he verbally abused me and I had no choice so I tolerated it. I delivered my son in 2016. During the year 2015-2016 I did not take any course. I was required complete bed rest due to my complicated pregnancy and emergency delivery. I went back to the United Kingdom after giving birth to my son to see my husband. Without asking or consulting me, he had booked my ticket to go to Pakistan to see my in laws. During this time, I had applied for fall and winter term (2016-2017) courses. I told him I needed to study but he did not listen and sent me to Pakistan with my son. He told me to study there. I went to Pakistan from the United Kingdom around September 2016. I tried studying in Pakistan but my in laws made it difficult for me. They took and hid my books away. They would disconnect the wifi and ask me to pay for it if I wanted to use it. I also did not have my laptop as it got stolen. They claimed they never saw a laptop but I had been using it for two weeks before it disappeared. I had to use my iPad to do part of my assignments. They also took my books away and claimed I had misplaced them. They put me into house work and distanced my son from me. I was depressed and wanted to end my life at some point. I felt as though people did not want me to finish my degree. My in laws had promised me that they would let me study but they changed their words and minds when I went to Pakistan. When I went back to the United Kingdom around February 2017, my husband screamed and shouted at me all the time. We did not get along at all. He told me I did not do enough for his family and that I was trying to escape from them. There were many other issues we were arguing about but I told him I could not take it anymore and left for Canada around March 2017. During this time period I was taking three courses. I stayed in my dad¿¿s house in the meantime. Meanwhile, a few months passed and issues occurred between me and my dad. Because of a disagreement and dispute my father abused me and kicked me out of the house which left me no choice but to move to my mothers house. My parents are divorced. I had a baby with me and my dad threw me on to the streets with no where for me to go. My mom took me in and comforted me. I told her everything that happened and said she was willing to help me out. I officially moved into my mothers home.
