Academic Plan
My Academic plan consists of strategies for success, work load expectations, and goals for the academic year.
As stated earlier, I am planning to retake all the courses in which I did poorly on this year. There¿¿s no way I can accept progressing into third year with such a horrible GPA. My top goal of the year is definitely to fix my GPA, as I know I will feel so much better about myself as well as where my life is taking me. The second priority I would say is going the gym, I mean the benefits are honestly endless. Happiness, Confidence, Strength, Productivity, More energy, Being healthy, Patience, and Focus are only some of the benefits. And yes, I know many people who say they¿¿ll go to the gym never end up going, which is why I made a daily schedule I would be happiest if I could wake up by 8am every day, as the earlier I wake up, the more time I¿¿ll have in my day During second year (especially second semester) my sleeping schedule was quite bad, I would wake up late, sleep late, and still wonder why I didn¿¿t have my life together. I know that keeping a routine is probably the most important strategy for success from them all, which is why my mornings will consist of breakfast, gym, a shower and some pastimes if I finish early. The best pastimes I found I would enjoy include: Reading, Drawing, Piano, Educational YouTube vids (I¿¿ve recently subscribed to some good channels, my favourites being Ted-Ed, It¿¿s Okay to Be Smart and The Life Guide) Honestly, I would enjoy any well-made YouTube video that has some knowledge and isn¿¿t a complete waste of time.
The problem second year was that whenever I had nothing else to do, I would just resort to the fun, useless, unhealthy pastimes such as video games and TV shows. My goal is to stop both, as both were known to be my biggest time wasters. In my opinion, a good day would involve the gym, a shower, healthy food, and of course completed work. I want to get a tutor for my hardest course, so I can put more focus towards the others. I also believe that time management is essential for being productive, as time tends to go towards unnecessary things, and if your time is managed properly, you can be the most productive you¿¿ve ever been in your life while also leaving time for relaxation and fun. For exams I¿¿ve found the best advice is not only to learn from past exam questions but to also review your notes AHEAD of time. I¿¿ve found that the earlier you begin studying for exams, the more likely you are to succeed as it gives your brain time to take in the info. I¿¿ve also recently read of the Student Academic Success Services, and it sounds like a great opportunity. I¿¿ve heard there is a Learning Strategist which also sounds quite useful.
In the chance I ever fall behind in a course, I like to imagine it¿¿s exam season and just spend the entire day working until I¿¿m caught up/made a lot of progress. During second year, whenever I fell behind, I would just procrastinate and say things like tomorrow or even just do half of the work telling myself I did enough. I honestly think procrastination is one was my biggest flaw of second year. Thankfully I already feel like I have a new outlook on procrastination, I¿¿ve honestly grown to hate it as I know what a huge factor it¿¿s been to my downfall. I tried this thing second semester that I call the countdown method where I wrote down all my upcoming assignments, tests and homework and wrote how many days away they are. I updated the ¿days away¿¿ each day in order to stay on top of everything. Unfortunately, I only kept it up for 2 weeks as we reached exam season, but I have to say it was much more successful than anything else I¿¿ve tried, as it kept me from forgetting and procrastinating. When studying, always take ALL the info OnQ has to offer and use it, as everything is there for a reason. Always review your work, practice it, and teach it for maximum learning potential. Anything can be achieved through practice. Over each semester, make sure to compile all weekly lab guides, lecture notes and PowerPoints into clear, concise jot notes. Go over the mark weighting for each course in the BEGINNING of the course, so you know exactly what is coming up and what is worth the most. An organized life is a happy life in my opinion. I recently read this quote that I¿¿d like to share which said that the pain of discipline is better that the pain of regret, which really stuck with me. A question I asked myself towards the beginning of the summer was ¿¿What do I want for myself, and what will I do to get there¿. I made a list of summer goals as well as things NOT to do so that my summer did not go to waste. I also took time to think about my future, and I¿¿m glad to say I¿¿m finally certain of whatI want in life and what I don¿¿t want, which is definitely wasting time.
Thank you so much for reading this, if you have any questions please let me know.
