Petition Letter
Throughout my time at Queen's, I have been dealing with hardships. In my first semester, Fall 2014, I was dealing with rotator cuff tears in both of my shoulders and had problems with how my patella tracks in my right knee. These injuries cause daily discomfort and pain. My knee swelled on a regular bases making everyday tasks arduous and my shoulder pain kept made it hard to sleep every night. Eventually, late in the semester this lead to me becoming depressed, and later on suicidal. My disregard for my own life heavily impacted how i treated my school. In the Fall semester of 2015, I had reached a breaking point and could no longer handle life. I had not handed in any assignments and didnt attended my exams, dropped out of the following winter semester and took one and a half years before returning to school to straighten myself out. After i returned during the Fall semester of 2017, I tore my trap in November and fell back into a depression that impacted my schooling for the rest of the year. In April of 2018, i began seeing a therapist at health and services organize myself and learn how to properly deal with my depressions and anxiety. I'm an individual that doesnt like to ask for help and generally tried to deal with my problems on my own which was a determent to myself. I did in November of 2015, talked to my doctor and he prescribed some medication that i did not take for long. I am yet to complete a semester of school with dealing with physical injuries or depressions. I feel like i have begun to create a system to deal with my problems in a healthy manner so i can put in my proper effort into school. I feel that if i'm allowed to return to study in September of 2018 I can learn from my time at the school and overcome issues as they arise. I believe that i belong at Queen's University and would like to prove that i belong to myself and the school.
