Petition Letter
I am requesting a late appeal to delay my take home exam for PSYC 353, Atypical Development. The circumstances surrounding this request are the same as the request which was granted for my PSYC 202 exam, which was granted me in April, but have since intensified. The reason for this late appeal and why I did not request at the time of the 202 appeal is that I was under the assumption I could complete the exam in the allotted time arranged between Dr. Elizabeth Kelly, the professor, and myself. Unfortunately, the circumstances surrounding my family situation grew dire exponentially and I am currently going through the court process for harassment/domestic violence towards me. This has taken it's toll on my emotional and cognitive resources and made it imperative that I direct 100 of my attention towards this situation and ensuring my children are protected. Professor Kelley supports this decision as stated in her email to me in April, which I am happy to provide. Secondly, my financial situation is dire and until now, I could not afford to pay the 50 fee for the appeal. I hope you will consider this appeal so I may complete the requirements necessary to enter my fourth and final year and graduate. I have intense determination to succeed in completing this degree and moving forward in my career to ensure security for myself and my children as well as to find an vocation which enables people in similar or other situations transcend their challenges and work towards their potential. I request a deadline of August 31st to complete the take home exam, as I will be re-reading, re-learning and studying all of the material in order to ensure success. I believe strongly I will be able to complete these goals by the end of the summer to be able to move forward in good standing. Documentation to follow if needed. Feel free to discuss my situation with Dr. Meghan Norris, the Undergraduate Chair of Psychology, with whom I have been in discussion to rectify the situation.
Sincerely,
Nicole Thomson
