Requirement to Withdraw
I am writing to you with respect to your May 22, 2018 letter. I wish to appeal the requirement to withdraw. I understand that I must first file an appeal requesting a waiver to the deadline to file the actual appeal. This is my request for the waiver.
I received your letter of May 22 while my father was in the midst of a lengthy hospitalization.
On April 20, 2018, my father sustained a serious cardiac event while outside the country. He had to be returned to Toronto by air ambulance on an emergency, life and death circumstance. He was thereafter a patient at Toronto General Hospital for over four weeks. This time period covered the time during which I received your letter. I was extremely distressed by the letter but I didn't wish to exacerbate my father's illness while he was in hospital by notifying him of the letter. I also wanted to talk to my father before taking any further steps. It was a period of unbelievable sadness and distress for me due to my father's illness. I did not know what to do.
Only very recently when my father's health somewhat improved did I feel able to talk to him about the letter and discuss next steps. However my father is still under intensive medical care, although on an outpatient basis. This is a very hard time for our family.
Given these circumstances I am requesting a waiver of the timeline within which to appeal. I would like an opportunity to lay out my story for your consideration and provide you with an explanation of the extenuating circumstances which led to me not being able to maintain the required GPA.
