Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to ask for permission to Return to Studies after a Requirement to Withdraw for Three Years has lapsed. I was required to withdraw for three years in 2010. I was not surprised when I received the notice. At that time, I deserved the penalty. Three years has lapsed, I have given a lot of thought since the withdraw. And now, I would like to ask to be allowed to return to Queen's. I admit, my grades at Queen's have never been great, but in the third year they were terrible. My failing grades were an accurate reflection of my effort in third year. I can not make excuses for my poor academic performance. I understand now that I should have communicated with my professors instead of avoiding them. At that time I thought I could handle all the courses, but I was wrong. I was a good student in high school because I am capable of good work when I set my priorities correctly. However after tasting the the freedom of university, I did not handle it well. I let my social life outgrow my study especially in third year. Being the student club (QCSSA) president in third year, I had put more time in the club events rather than my study. I lost sight of why I am in university. I am obviously not proud of this behavior, nor is it easy for me to admit, but I realize I can't hide from reality.
During my time away from Queen's, I did and tried many things trying to find what I really want. For the first year after the withdraw, I was ashamed to tell my parents that I was being withdraw from Queens. I am the first person to attend university in my family. I had to lie to them to cover the truth. I stayed at Kingston pretending still going to school instead I worked part time as a dish washer. When I was not in work, I still studied computing on my own. I would go through course website and studied the course note. I know it is different from going to school having a professor teaching all, but that was the only way at the time. By the fellowing year, all my friends were graduated from Queen's. Seeing my friends standing on the stage getting their graduation papers and able to share with their parents, I was jealous of them and regret on what I did. Since then, I started to think about my future and what I want to be. I decided to take on a trip. And after the trip I would tell my parents the truth. During the trip, I first biked 2000km to the Newfoundland which took me 22 days to finish. Then I went back to China for another bike trip. The bike trip itself is consider one of hardest in China. I know if I can finish this, I could take on everything. I know I can do it if I put my mind to it. After the trip, I told my parents that I have been withdraw. Even though it was difficult conversation with my parents, I am grateful to have their understandings. For past two years, I worked as an assistant in a computer company. All through I am away from school, I try to keep myself close to the computing. Now I think I am ready.
I love Queen's, and I am proud to be a Queen's student. Queen's is like a home for me, and I want go back to it. It would mean so much to me to graduate from this school. My dream has always been studying at Queen's and I am disappointed in myself for letting my behavior get in the way of that dream. My withdraw has been a big wake up call for me, and I am very aware that if my behavior doesn't change, I don't deserve to attend Queen's. If I am return to Queen's, I would give my 100 at study. I know the consequence of letting play comes over study. I won't let it happen again. The life without diploma is not the life I want to have. I will focus much better on my schoolwork. I have learned many time management skills that will help me in my study. I will talk to an advisor, finding out the best way to graduate. I will communicating better with my professors from now on. I have tried a lot of hard things in the past few years. If I can complete those, I know I can do this. I hope you will give me the opportunity to prove to you that I am capable of being a strong student. I really want let my parents to see me stand on the stage getting graduate.
Thank you for taking your time reading my request and I hope to hear from you soon.
Best Regard
Sincerely
