Petition Letter
To Whom it may concern,
I am a nursing student at Queen's University, and am currently enrolled in ASTR 101. I chose to take this course as my elective. The final exam for this course is coming up and is on Thursday August 2nd. I have emailed Professor Hanes explaining my circumstances for which I wish to have an extension for the final exam, and I have been advised to make an academic appeal.
I have had an extremely stressful summer, and effectively studying for this course has been a challenge. Professor Hanes has granted me a few accommodations in the duration of this course. I work at a nursing home and have been exposed to many illnesses. As such, have been fighting numerous illnesses throughout the course from common colds that have developed into fevers. Moreover, my grandfather was placed in palliative care at the beginning of the summer due to his stage 4 lung cancer that has metastasized to his brain, spinal cord, bones and spleen. This has been very stressful on the family, and his prognosis is not looking good. Lastly, my father was in a medical life threatening emergency 2 days ago with a ruptured spleen resulting in internal bleeding placing him in an extremely dangerous situation. The doctors had to replace his total blood volume more than 6 times in one night. At one point, we were second guessing if he would be ok. I have been extremely stressed from these unfortunate events, and my studies in this course for the upcoming exam are not where I would like them to be. I am finding it difficult to focus and get in effective studying time for the upcoming final exam in ASTR 101. Would it be at all possible for me to write the final exam at a later date than August 2nd It is very important to me to maintain a high mark and finish strong in ASTR 101.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your help.
Sincerely,
Clare Holton
