Academic Plan
The Problem
Unfortunately I had a number of reasons why I wasn¿¿t successful in the Winter semester of 2017. These are listed below:
¿¿ The main reason I was unsuccessful was because I became depressed, and with everything I had going on it was hard to bounce out of the depressive episode.
¿¿ I often had trouble sleeping at night and would end up sleeping in and missing classes in the mornings.
¿¿ I was heavily involved with the Queen¿¿s Hyperloop Design team, CEEC and The Cansbridge Fellowship. These commitments took up 15-20 hours a week.
¿¿ I had way too much to do and not enough time to do it
¿¿ I was always busy and didn¿¿t make time for myself, I neglected exercise
The Solution
During my semester off I made a lot of realizations about why I was unsuccessful at school. Although not everything about my mental well being is in my control, I certainly can control some factors. I have set up a plan to give myself the best chance of succeeding. Additionally, information on the Learning Strategies Development website has equipped me with tools to ensure I have a successful semester.
¿¿ Take care of my physical well being, this means leaving time at the end of my day to cook a nutritious meal, getting some form of exercise at least once a day. And finally getting to bed at a reasonable hour every night (before 11pm), for this to work I need to be giving myself time to wind down before bed.
¿¿ I have resigned from my positions on all extra curricular organizations at Queen¿¿s. Once my academics are where they need to be, I will reassess and potentially re join some of my extra curricular activities next year.
¿¿ I have created a balanced, academic focused schedule that I plan to follow religiously. By also only enrolling in 4 courses this semester I will have a much more manageable course load.
