Petition Letter
August 13, 2018
To Associate Dean,
I am appealing to drop BISC 101 and ENGL100.
I spent my first year at the Bader International Study Centre at Herstmonceaux Castle for my Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Education. Unfortunately, I suffered from severe mental health difficulties all throughout my time there and it directly affected my academic performance. I sought out help and even saw a counsellor part way through the first term, but that caused me to experience my first panic attack. As the term progressed, so did my symptoms of decreased concentration, fatigue, withdrawal from usual activities, depressed mood and suicidal thoughts, and panic attacks. As a result, I was unable to complete my academic requirements and be successful. I am deeply disappointed and would like to recover from this situation.
Since my return home, I have focused on my health by seeing medical professionals and making adjustments to my lifestyle. While I still experience some of the symptoms I did before, I now have helpful forms of support and believe I can return to school and be successful.
I hope this allowed you to understand my experience. Thank you for your consideration with regards to my academic standing.
Sincerely,
Samantha
