Petition Letter
To the Faculty of Arts and Science,
I am writing to submit an appeal to spend the Winter 2019 semester studying in Prague, Czech Republic instead of at Queen's University. I am using the organization International Studies Abroad (studiesabroad.com) to study at Charles University in Prague, where I will be taking Politics courses that I hope will transfer to my Queen's major plan. My reason for choosing this option is that I was not accepted into the official Queen's International Exchange program for arts and sciences students. In February 2018, I was told that many others applied to the same places as I did, so I was unfortunately not one of the students chosen. While I was kindly given the chance to accept any of the options with leftover availability, I did not want to take an option that did not inspire or intrigue me. I am now looking to still complete a semester abroad with a third-party program to let me experience the world abroad while continuing my studies in Political Studies and working towards my Queen's major. I have submitted the required documentation for the third-party program, a visa for the Czech Republic, and the International Letter of Permission. With the ILOP, I require an appeal to the Faculty of Arts and Science. I believe studying abroad will improve my appreciation for Politics, academia, and my understanding of different cultures. I believe it is a unique opportunity to complete part of my degree in another culture where I can learn both its own aspects as well as gain an appreciation for my own culture.
