To Whom It May Concern:
Please accept this letter as a request to kindly consider an appeal of my tuition fees charged for courses I could not take due to unforeseen and extenuating circumstances during the summer/fall of 2011, and the winter of 2012.
Unfortunately, I was not aware of tuition owing of 4803.81 until recently, being informed on October 5th 2018, when I received a notice from collections agency ¿¿EOS Canada¿ (attached). The earlier notifications were being sent to an address based in Kingston, where I have not resided since 2010 date.
Extenuating circumstances which occurred during late 2010 through 2014 significantly restricted my mobility and prevented me from attending classes in the city of Kingston:
¿¿ My mental capacity to focus academically was significantly hindered as a result of being assaulted by a Police Officer from the Kingston Police Department; this led to a concussion and wound to my lip requiring stiches
¿¿ I was physically unable to be present in Kingston as I was charged with an offence that I did not commit, which required me to prove my innocence. During this period, Courts had put restrictive conditions during the Summer of 2011, Fall 2011, and Winter of 2012 where I had to reside at my parents¿¿ home in Mississauga. (attached bail documentation)
¿¿ I was also ordered to volunteer an excess of 152 hours during the summer of 2011 (attached), along with the bail conditions in which I could not attend my summer course of MUSC 171
Since I was unable to travel to the city of Kingston during this period, I had originally contacted Jennine Ball who had agreed to remove the courses and that I would no longer attend Queens University. That said, I was under the assumption that the courses had been removed as a result of her confirmation in that discussion. I recently reached out to the Arts and Science department at Queen¿¿s University in an attempt to retrieve a book of record from that conversation; however, all notes on the file have been deleted. I have spoken with Cathy from Fee Based, Cindy Butts from Appeals and Anke from Financial Services in regards to my situation.
I would greatly appreciate any compassion regarding this manner. I had every intention of attending Queen¿¿s University during the Summer/Fall 2011 and Winter 2012 school terms; however, due to the unfortunate circumstances above, I was unable to be present in the city of Kingston. This situation and its related consequences, such as this outstanding balance, have caused me much stress and anxiety and it has also affected my credit worthiness when applying for a mortgage.
The outstanding balance is currently held by collections and I am very concerned this will continue to negatively impact my credit; I would be extremely grateful if you can kindly assist in granting the academic appeal, further allowing Cindy Butts to remove the amount owing.
Sincerely,
Harvey Saroya
