Petition Letter
Dear Dean Johanne Bénard,
I hope you¿¿re well. I am humbly writing this appeal letter to request the extension of my incomplete grade in CISC 472. The incomplete grade was granted until September 15th to allow me to complete outstanding assignments for the Winter 2018 term. This was due to excruciating and debilitating back pain which I provided documentation for at the time.
Over the Summer and Fall term of 2018, I had honest intentions to complete the assignments, however, I went through a series of traumatic events that truly impacted my ability to focus and attend to my health and/or any school work. In the Summer, my best friend in the whole world attempted to commit suicide two times. While I tried my absolute best and am happy I was able to support my friend throughout this time, it took a toll on my personal mental health as well. In August, 2018 my grandmother who lives with me had a stroke which furthered her dementia significantly. This was shocking to adjust to for my whole family, as she truly started to lose touch with reality and stopped recognizing us. As I was finally adjusting to my regular routine and life, in November, 2018, my aunt was killed. The loss of my aunt, and the nature surrounding her death was and is too much to handle.
Throughout the past few months I¿¿ve been working on these assignments on and off, and despite the traumatic events, I¿¿ve finally been able to complete them. I didn¿¿t want to submit an appeal until I was done the assignments as I didn¿¿t want to promise to adhere to a timeline that I would fail to commit to. Allowing me this extension would allow my completed assignments to be graded. This would avoid the ¿F¿¿ that is on my transcript at the moment which will very negatively impact my chances to apply to grad school in the future and is the only thing preventing me from graduating. It will also allow me to stay in Toronto with my family/support system and avoid me moving back to Kingston to redo only this one course. I¿¿ve truly had the hardest year of my life, and this appeal being granted would genuinely make such a positive difference. Thank you so much in advance for your consideration, I am grateful to even have the opportunity to submit this appeal. I hope you will empathize with my situation, and grant the appeal based on the fact that I¿¿ve worked hard on all of the assignments and they¿¿re entirely complete. Thank you once again for your kindness, I can¿¿t explain what the approval of this appeal will mean to me.
Sincerely Yours,
Sabrina Maliha Quazi
