Petition Letter
The reason that I am writing this letter is due to the major impact that my 2018 winter semester grades have on my GPA which I do understand there is onus on my part but also that I was dealing with mental issues extremely severely which did not allow me to focus on school or have my mind right during that time period. To give some more information, my friend was shot and killed multiple times in the skull and body in a form of gang violence in Toronto. With my reaction and lack of ability to cope, I had spiralled into a hole which seemed impossible to get out of until recently. As a result, my grades had suffered and my GPA had taken a large hit and as I am on my way back on track to completing my degree, I have noticed that these grades have made it extremely difficult to overturn my cumulative GPA. I was hoping to at least be able to have the chance to make up for the low grades that I have received which I am not proud of and now hoping to work hard for through my effort and dedication to my studies. It has not been green grasses and clear skies throughout my life as I lost 2 friends within 2 years and one already to suicide. I do not expect pity from this appeal but rather I just hope that you sympathize with my situation and understand that I am willing to turn it around for myself and my future and a credit standing for these 3 courses in my winter semester will mean the world to me. I am currently an Economics major and the Law and Global Development courses are of no use to me regardless but if the appeal is not granted for Econ 239 because it is in my major I will retake it regardless. I hope you understand and appreciate my effort to communicate my issues and hope to find that the credit standing is applied. Thank you very much.
