Academic Plan
Upon completion of this academic semester, I will have 33.0 units left to complete my honours degree (given that I pass all my courses as planned). For the remaining units, 21.0 units are needed towards my program plan and 12.0 units are electives. I plan to use 18.0 units from this year abroad in this manner; 3.0 units towards a language course, 3.0 units towards a DEVS eligible and 12.0 units towards electives. I would complete the remaining 15.0 units upon returning to Queens in the fall of 2020. This would include my 3rd and 4th year global development core courses (12.0 units) and one language course (3.0 units). Although the remaining units could be completed in one semester, as they are not all offered in the same semester, I will complete them in the fall and winter semesters of 2020 and 2021 respectively. I will be a full-time student for the fall of 2019 and upon returning to Queens (Winter 2020 semester I will be completing a placement).
I understand the challenges of being in a new environment and trying to succeed academically from completing my first year at the Bader International Study Centre. Although I am aware that this will be a very different experience, I am confident in my abilities to adapt emotionally and physically to a new cultural environment all whilst succeeding academically. In emotionally grueling times, I will draw on the variety of coping mechanisms that have helped me overcome and persevere through these moments. In times where I need external support, I will have a support system from other students attending the program and I have a strong support system in Canada that will provide me with emotional stability in tough times. Financial stress will not be a factor, as I am planning to work all summer which will provide with the income to pay my tuition and pay my living while abroad. I plan to keep my study routine and the tools such as time management, strong work ethic, and organization that I have learned that work to help me succeed in Kingston and apply it to a new situation in Ghana. Upon returning to a familiar environment in Kingston, I feel that I will be able to complete my degree to my utmost potential while having culturally immersive experiences that have furthered my education and position for the future.
