Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing to request an appeal to waive the 21-day deadline in order to proceed with appealing previously received grades.
Beginning from Fall 2016 until Winter 2019, I experienced continuous clinical depression, which impaired my ability to make appropriate academic decisions in a timely manner. I lacked the presence of mind and the drive to move forward with an appeals process at that time. The symptoms appeared in October of 2016 and steadily worsened. I finally went to my family doctor, Dr. Adriana Mechetiuc, in 2018 and was diagnosed with clinical depression, and have since been working to ameliorate my mental state. I now have the wherewithal to recognize the position I am in and the steps that need to be taken in order to improve my academic performance, the first of which is the submission of this appeal, which I do in full confidence that my future performance will be significantly improved.
I am currently working with a psychotherapist in order to combat this illness, and am making great strides, which is helping me to ensure that I do not regress to old patterns. Over the summer, I plan to take one online course with the support of friends and family in order to develop and relearn better study skills and habits, which will serve me throughout the remainder of my academic career.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Irena Cernea
