Petition Letter
Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing to request Credit Standing for Law 705 and Law 207, which I completed in the Winter 2019 semester. I believe that my extenuating circumstances prevented me from being able to complete the courses to the best of my ability.
In February of 2019, I lost my Grandma suddenly to a heart attack. She and I were extremely close, and I found it difficult to work through my grief. I took a week off to spend time with family, to try to accept the unimaginable. I took the initiative to contact each of my professors, and they were kind enough to give me extensions on the work that I missed. Unfortunately, this caused me to fall behind. I spent the entire semester working on prioritizing my work and submitting assignments as soon as I was able.
Additionally, as a result of the emotions I was dealing with, I felt that I was simply going through the motions of school. I lost the energy to invest in my education and my retention of course material suffered. This was challenging when it came to Law 705 and 207, which were online courses. Through the weeks and months of just trying to keep up, I lost my focus when it came to the independent study of online learning. I know that if circumstances had been different, I would have had the stamina and focus to be able to achieve higher success in these courses.
I am requesting Credit Standing in Law 705 and 207 because I know that losing my Grandma had a hugely negative impact on me throughout these last few months.
