Petition Letter
I recently completed CISC 124 in the winter term. Throughout the course I had many issues concerning my mental health throughout the course. During high school I had been diagnosed with PTSD, depression, anxiety and had suicidal tendencies. These issues have followed me to university. Due to my anxiety I frequently experience panic attacks when attempting to attend busy lectures, restricting me from attending the lectures of CISC 124, leading to a lack of understanding of course material. I expressed these problems to my doctor at Queens however I was told I needed to make a separate appointment in regard to these issues. After approximately a month I was finally able to see the doctor again and I requested that I be put on stronger antidepressants. I was given a prescription for a new medication however they caused me to vomit for two days. I tried to go back to the doctor however the walk-in clinic was closed and they would not allow me to see a doctor without an appointment. I was told by the receptionist to stop the medication all together but due to the duration of which I have been taking antidepressants, this can cause very severe mood swings. I was finally given my old prescription, however throughout all the doctor¿¿s appointments and sickness I was unable to finish my first assignment for the course and received a 47. As well as this issue, throughout this term my depression and mood swings have been greatly fluctuating due to a drug problem. I expressed this issue to my doctor and she said that I would need to deal with it through counselling. I began counselling through the school however they only have an availability once a month. I was able to see a counsellor twice and it improved my mood and drug dependency however my last appointment was cancelled because the counsellor was sick and I had been relying on those appointments greatly. I had been experiencing large mood swings and was unable to leave my bed for days at a time. This led to a lack of motivation in my school work and I received a 40 on my last assignment in the course. Throughout the course, my depression interfered with my school work greatly and I truly attempted to get help but the school has very limited availability so I was unable to get the treatment I really needed.
