Petition Letter
Members of the Board of Studies,
I am appealing to waive the 21-day appeal deadline for a decision to submit a request to be allowed to continue enrolling for another school year. The 21-day appeal deadline is put in place to ensure that academic standards are upheld and that all students are treated equitably. Within the 21 days, students would have an opportunity to gather all supporting documents and submit them to the school in time of a decision. However, my doctor¿¿s note took longer than expected due to a personal vocation that he took.
In supporting document 1, my doctor has provided a personal letter towards the Board of Studies explaining that the documentation he provided is late due to the inability to get in touch and me answered the innocent party. After receiving the withdraw decision, I soon reached out to my doctor on May 13th asking for the documentation on my medical record and was only given an answer on the 18th of June. I tried multiple times during the process of waiting but received no response throughout the months.
In supporting document 2, the documentation provided is the diagnostic of mental depression caused by a family matter that significantly impaired my leaning ability during winter time in the year of 2018. The documentation plays a significant role in explaining my appeal of waiving the request to withdraw for one year, thus causing me to wait to pass the deadline. Since the medical form proofs that I was diagnosed with this illness in the winter of 2018 and is now supported by the doctor to reconnect and get back to my normal behavior and lifestyle as before since the illness is now under control and well sustained. This supports my later appeal in explaining the change of mental states can significantly increase my ability to focus academically and successfully raise my GPA above the minimum requirement and stay in good academic standing.
Another significant reason that kept me waiting was because the first appeal I ever submitted to drop courses based on a self-explained appeal letter was denied based on a lack of supporting documents. It is illogical to wait for a declined appeal that was submitted on time and not be able to appeal on the same subject again in the future. My case of proving how my situation has changed and can now be a better suit to continue my course load does not stand without any proof of documentation.
I have only received both the letter from my doctor and the diagnostic sheet today and is appealing to the school right away. To be treated fairly, I believe special circumstances need to be considered separately when the student is not the faulty party. The documentation number one can also provide proof that the documentation is valid and truthful thus satisfying Queen¿¿s university¿¿s requirement to ensure that all documents are trustworthy.
