Academic Plan
Name: Zainab Mnyetto Student no: 20031085
Academic plan
1. I plan to take three (3) courses in each semester instead of five (5). That is, three courses in the fall term, three courses in the winter term, and three courses in the spring (summer) term. We are currently not allowed to take summer courses in our scholarship program, but I figured it is better to have nine (9) successfully completed courses over three semesters, instead of ten (10) incomplete courses squeezed into two terms. I need a lighter course load so I can focus on more therapy and healing. I could take on more courses over the years once I get better and my mental health is not so fragile anymore.
2. I will work very closely with my professors to get alternative assessments instead of exams or accommodations where necessary because my anxiety is at an all time high at the moment and it makes it very difficult to do even the most simplest of quizzes no matter how well prepared I am. I have also noticed that I usually crash around midterm and exam seasons so I want to be proactive instead of reactive and ask for help in getting exams accommodations in advance. I do not ever want to be where I was a couple of months ago.
3. I will never ever defer an exam or assessment into the following term. Never. With a smaller course load and actively seeking out help both academically and health wise, I am confident that I will be able to achieve this.
4. I will register with the Student Accessibility Services so that I can have support and accommodations during the semester. The goal is to make sure that I successfully complete each course in the semester that I take it so that it does not spill into another semester and make the workload overwhelming.
5. I am done being in denial about having depression and anxiety, and I will not allow myself to be ignorant about it any longer. I will keep doing research into it so I can understand myself better, and I will continue to have consistent therapy sessions so I can have a solid support system in place to make sure that I manage this illness as well as I possibly can. I will also stop isolating myself so that my friends and family can support in any way that they can.
6. I am going to be kind to myself. I am going to turn all this self loathing, and self blaming and shaming into self care. I now better understand that mental illness is a disease like any other and that it is not my fault. I have already started taking better care of myself so I will strive to keep this going. I will continue to eat healthy and consistently, exercising frequently, and making more conscious effort into socializing. I will ask for help whenever I need it, and I will consistently seek treatment.
