Petition Letter
To the Associate Dean,
My name is Danaka Turcaj (10193598) and I am appealing to take fourth year courses (18.0 units) away on a letter of permission. I am aware that typically, a student is only able to take 6.0 units on an LOP although, I am requesting that in order to complete my degree, I am able to take 18.0 units on an LOP.
Unfortunately due to personal and financial circumstances, I am not able to return to Queen's to complete my courses and thus complete my degree. At the beginning of my fourth year at Queen's, I had a significant amount of trouble enrolling into courses since I had debt on my my student account- I was able to register for first semester although, when second semester came, I was unable to enrol in courses as the debt was still owing. This made it so that I was a semester away from graduating although, because of financial problems, I was unable to take the required courses to successfully graduate. This was extremely tough as I am a diligent and hard working student who has always put their academics as my top priority. I attempted to pay off the debt although, it was not possible and thus forced me to take the semester off and delayed my graduation. While I still struggle to pay the debt, I believe that it is in my best interest to live at home while completing the rest of my degree as it would make more sense for me financially (please kindly refer to my documentation provided). Although it is not my preferred option, I do believe taking courses in Toronto is my only option to graduate.
My plan is to take 9.0 units starting November 1st with Athabasca University (online) to complete my elective units missing (9.0 units) and to take 9.0 units starting in the winter session at U of T to complete my core degree units (9.0 units).
