Petition Letter
I am appealing to enroll JAPN110 (Fall and winter, 2019-2020).
I am a first-year international student in Queen's university, and I have a good experience during the first month. I am interested in Japanese very much and I do make a lot of efforts on it through the whole September. However, on Oct 7th, I dropped this class by mistake because I didn't know that the section of the course cannot be changed and students are not allowed to add class after Sep 18th. I decided to medial in Economics next year so I have to take math course next semester. But there's a time conflict between JAPN110 and MATH124. As I found the status of another section of JAPN110 was still opening, I clicked on the drop button though my intention was not to drop this class. Then, now, I find myself is not able to enroll this class again.
Enrolling this course is quite significant for my academic achievement. After dropping this class by mistake, I only have two courses left in this term and it can be hard for me to achieve minimum academic performance. I have confidence to do well at JAPN110 in the future because I did well in the past two quizzes and exam and I am strongly motivated by my interest. If I am able to enroll this course again, there are three courses in my fall term. I make sure that three courses will not be overloaded for me and I can manage my time well.
My study skills are not bad, for I got Principal's Scholarship when I accepted the offer of Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Program. I have transferred the credits of ECON111&122 and MATH123 from AP scores and my academic plan is that I prepare to major in Film&Media and medial in Economics or Linguistics. I take FILM110A and FILM240 this semester and I am going to take FILM110B, MATH124, FILM214 next semester to fulfill the degree plan of Film&Media and Economics. Since I am interested in studying foreign language (I have learned French and Korean before I entered the university), I initially plan to study Japanese in the first year before I take the professional courses of Linguistics in the second year. But the mistake I made yesterday made my plan can hardly be achieved now.
Though I will miss several classes because of my mistake, I have textbook and exercise book so I can study by myself by YouTube or other materials to catch up the course. I used to get 4 in AP Microeconomics by self-study so I believe I can follow the class.
I hope I can have one more chance to continue to take JAPN110. As a full-time student, I really want to take one more course in my first year.
