Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean Studies,
I am writing this appeal to drop the course, PHIL381, after the fall 2019 term drop date. On November 5th, 2019, my father unexpectedly and tragically lost his battle with Cancer. At the date of his death, I applied for academic consideration. I then discussed submission plans with all of my professors at that time. Now that I have taken a couple of weeks to grieve, I have come to realize that my workload for this semester is too heavy for me to complete to the best of my abilities while I mourn my father's passing. I have decided it is in my best interest to drop this course rather than do poorly and give myself some extra time to focus on my other classes.
I have started to see a grief counsellor and continued to work with the hospital social worker to work through my grieving process. I plan to continue seeing professionals such as, my councillors and doctors, as they will provide me with the necessary tools to get through the grieving process. Along with using the necessary tools provided by the support system I am reaching out to and taking on a lighter course load for the rest of the semester, I will be able to enter back into the winter term with a better mindset.
Attached to this appeal, I have included a letter from the social worker at the hospital explaining my father's death and that, given his traumatic passing, as well as a copy of his official death certificate. If more documentation is required, please advise and I will get it to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Always,
Lydia Tomasi
