Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson and Haley Everson,
My name is Sophie Leebrook and I am a second year coned student. I am writing in hopes of appealing the denial of late submission due to a technical difficulty in the class MUSC 171. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain my circumstances.
Yesterday, December 13th, the final paper for MUSC 171 was due at 6:00pm. I had finished the conclusion of my final paper at around 3pm. I had been working on the paper throughout the week but wanted to take a break from the paper and read it in a few hours with a refreshed brain. I went to re-read the paper and complete a final check through to catch last minute grammatical errors at around 5:400pm. It was fully completed and ready to submit, when I went to add file on the On-Q portal the document was not showing up saved anywhere on my computer. I kept trying to save the file in different forms but it still was not an option to upload. I was very confused as this had never happened before. I was frantically trying to make it work and was asking the people around me at the library to help as well. The document was making it unable to submit on On-Q. Then the color wheel started turning on document and has continued to do so for the past 16 hours. I emailed the link of the document to my professor, Professor MacKay, since it would still not allow for the document to save to my computer. I attached a picture of the document and the color wheel turning on the document with the time visible at 6:05pm. I explained my situation to the professor and he said he will have to give me a zero on the paper due to late submission. This has been extremely emotionally tolling to hear and accept due to the fact it is weighted at 35 of the grade. Professor McKay suggested that I submit an academic appeal. I am a very punctual and responsible student and I am extremely frustrated at myself and these circumstances. I have dealt with extreme stress, anxiety, and loss of sleep due to personal and house outbreaks of lice over the past few weeks. The timing with final projects and exams has been very emotionally draining and this situation and news has caused even more. I am fully aware of the fact that it was irresponsible for me to leave submission close to the deadline and I should have submitted it directly after completion. I put a great deal of time and effort into this final paper is and being weighted at 35, receiving a zero on this would be extremely detrimental to my course grade and overall GPA. I am hoping that there is a way for my paper to be accepted for late submission or some sort of reduced mark.
I accept and am aware of the fact that this situation was caused by a wrong decision on my part to wait to read over and submit my paper. I am responsible for these actions and for my own future mental and academic success I will never leave the submission of an assignment until the day of. I will be more responsible and make sure my documents are saved properly and I have a backup plan if my computer glitches again.
I promise that I would never intend to cause this much trouble for everyone during such a stressful time of year. However, this is extremely important to me and I sincerely hope that my paper can still be accepted in some form. Thank you so much for considering this appeal.
Warm Regards,
Sophie Leebrook
