Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
I am requesting an appeal regarding the final grade I received in my GNDS311 course. Despite receiving all the grades in the course to equate to 90.75 (A+) my professor refuses to acknowledge this and has awarded me an (A).
The following is a breakdown of my grades in the GNDS 311 course:
Short essay (20): 18/20
Group presentation (15): 12.75/15
Annotated bibliography (15): 12/15
Final essay (40): 36/40
In-class writing assignments (10): 10/10 + bonus 2 for completing 6 assignments worth 2 each 12/10
18+12.75+12+36+12 90.75
My professor has indicated that my bonus 2 was rolled into my final essay without giving further explanation. Despite saying it rolled into my final essay, my grade on the essay remains a 90, the original grade I was awarded. When requesting further explaining about my grade from my TA, he indicated that my final essay grade prior to the additional 2, was 90. When questioning my professor about this discrepancy, she indicated that she makes all the final decisions and that she adjusted my grade accordingly, but refused to explain how my grade fairly equates an (A). I will be attaching the email chain to my additional documents for a more clear explanation.
Additionally, during the time of the final essay, I was experiencing extenuating circumstances. Due to personal reasons regarding mental health, I was given accommodations for exams and final assignments, including the assignment for this course. In passing, it was insinuated that despite receiving 90 on my final essay, the grade was lowered without my knowledge due to the professor's own regards towards my assignments timeliness. In no other course have my grades suffered unfairly due to my extenuating circumstances, and I am deeply frustrated that this is coming from the Gender Studies department none the less.
Altogether, I believe I have been treated poorly regarding this issue and my professor has refused to ease any confusion. Please help me find a way to get the mark I deserve. I worked extremely hard in this course to have a grade I am proud to use in applying to grad school and this has put a huge damper on my experience with the Gender Studies department.
