Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (studies),
My name is Olivia Cournoyea, I am in my fourth year at Queen¿¿s University in honours biology. I am appealing in order to add BIOL 331 (winter, 2020) and drop GPHY 101 (winter, 2020).
It has recently been brought to my attention that I am 3.0 credits short in the 2Bic component. Before January 17th when I looked at my solus for the academic requirements report, it said that I had all of my required courses and actually had an extra. This is why I dropped BIOL 430, as I thought I fulfilled all of my requirements already. I was very surprised on January 20th when I received an email from the department of Arts and Science Degree Requirements to hear that I am actually 3.0 credits short of graduating. After meeting with an academic advisor, I realized that if there are classes in your planner on solus, that the requirement report can give false positives, and the advisor notified me that the school is trying to rectify this issue. The advisor also said that applying to graduation before January would make sure that your report gets looked at in time, which I was unaware about. Unfortunately, I was in South Africa for three weeks before this without internet connection making it difficult to apply for graduation until I got home.
Due to this issue I am submitting this academic appeal in order to fulfill my graduation requirements so that I can graduate this spring and enter into my new program at Flemming College next year. I have chosen BIOL 331 because I am interested in genomics and believe this course would be a great experience. I have contacted Dr Young, who is the professor for this class to see if he would be willing to have me in his class so late in the semester. He was very enthusiastic about having a new student in his class and has invited me to start attending classes on January 22nd before this appeal gets accepted. In turn for adding BIOL 331 I would like to drop GPHY 101 as it is no longer useful to me. I have forwarded you the email from Dr Young granting me access to his class. I appreciate you taking the time to look at my appeal and hopefully help me switch my classes so that I can continue my studies next year.
