Petition Letter
To whom will be reading this email,
My name is Adrien Mindjimba, student number 20008577. I was a student at Queen¿¿s University in my third year this year. I was placed on academic probation and was asked to withdraw for a year for the 2018-19 school year. After successfully appealing the decision because of family matter I was readmitted at Queen¿¿s with certain requirements (a GPA of 1.6). I did not meet those requirements with a minimum of 1.6 and failed to achieve that. I realized now I was not mature enough and did not realize the chance and opportunity given by this school and my parents to attend Queen¿¿s University again.
So at the end of the 2018-19 school year I was asked to withdraw. But in my mind as it was the first offence of being suspended, it was only a 12 months suspension. I called the Arts and Science department a couple weeks ago to know about the process I need to undergo to be able to choose classes for the 19-20 school year but at my surprise they told me that I was asked to withdraw for 36 months and not 12. There is indeed a 21 day deadline after receiving the letter that I am required to withdraw for 3 years to appeal the decision. But I never in fact received a letter at my house in Toronto or Kingston. And this is why I did not really start the process of appealing a decision. I received a letter from OSAP saying I will need to start paying them back 12 months after my requirements of withdraw.
So in my mind with no physical letter from Queen¿¿s University received asking me to withdraw for 3 years and a letter from OSAP telling me I am not able to receive funds for 12 month. And myself, being suspended for the first time. I really thought I was asked to withdraw for a year and would be able to go back to school in the fall.

If you submit your appeal requesting to waive the requirement to withdraw for a minimum of three years within the appeal deadline then you may include this as part of your academic plan. If your appeal is granted, the requirement to withdraw ruling will be waived and you will be permitted to return to studies at any time but you may certainly take a voluntary leave of absence for a year (or longer).¿
Therefore,
I am writing this appeal of the 21 days; to be able to appeal the 3 year suspension and show you the Board of Appeal; that I am in fact taking action to better myself as a person, and as a student. I would really be grateful if you would give me the opportunity to appeal the 3-year suspension and show you the different action that I have taken to be a more that successful young man and student.
