Petition Letter
The Request: I am appealing for a late drop on all courses I registered for in the Summer 2019 and the Fall 2019 semester, and withdrawal from my studies for the Winter 2020 semester
Explaining the extenuating circumstances: Severe depression
I was unable to understand the extent of my depression. Over time it became worse and I stopped going to class and did not complete assignments. It did not occur to me that I was suffering from mental health issues and I was not in a state of mind to share my issues with anyone who might have helped. I did consider dropping the courses CISC 121, CISC 124, CISC 102 and BIOL 102. I lost interest and motivation to continue in my program and I was unable to keep up at all with my courses.
This winter break I when I was staying with my brother, my sister in law, a family physician, diagnosed me with clinical depression and convinced me to book appointments with the student counsellor and with physicians in Queens Wellness Centre. My mental health issues have not been resolved yet, but I am going to student counselling to help me manage my situation and keep on following it up with further counselling. I have also booked appointments with the physician on the 12th February 2020.
Future Plan: I plan to retake the relevant courses when I return to studies after I have talked to the physician and determine when I can return to classes. I do plan on taking the relevant courses so I can eventually apply to switch to engineering at Queen¿¿s. I believe that pursuing a degree in engineering will help me achieve my academic goals. I will keep following up my meetings with a personal counselor at Student Wellness and physician, as necessary.
