Petition Letter
During the 2020 Winter academic term I was affected by extenuating circumstances which hindered my ability to complete all my required course assignments, leading to failing grades. Circumstances such as family problems and psychological challenges severely impacted my mental health, and these negative impacts made completing coursework extremely difficult in this time period. Along with this, COVID-19 added further complications and mental stress. Unfortunately at the time I did not have the strength to reach out for support.
For some background information: My family immigrated to Canada and within our culture is a definite lack of support/seriousness in regards to mental health issues. I felt as though I did not have the necessary support systems to handle various obstacles throughout my university career. This is reflected in past grades. As I've grown as a person, I have attempted to rectify these shortcomings and reach out to different systems to find that support I've needed. This means I don't have official documentation to support my appeal but I am willing to further discuss on the steps I am taking to become a more responsible student.
The deadline to drop courses was on June 10th, and unfortunately I missed this but am hoping I've submitted this appeal soon enough to receive consideration.
