Petition Letter
The following letter is an appeal to return to studies after my 2013 requirement to withdraw lapsed in May of 2016. As a student in my late thirties, who has suffered from a serious mental illness, I¿¿d like to think that I bring experience to my appeal process. If my appeal is granted, I am planning to return to my studies in September of 2020.
I entered the 2011 -2012 school year unstable and developed severe schizophrenia after taking concerta to study. I could not think clearly which made it impossible to function academically in either school year. I left Kingston many times in the 2012 - 2013 school year.
Following my requirement to withdraw in 2013, I continued my schizophrenia treatment with Dr. Hayes. I tried to return to Queens in 2016, but my symptoms continued as I went to see Dr. Gudapati. It took me 7 years to become stable and I spent a great deal of time in psychosis. One of the reasons it took me so long to become stable is my disease caused me to stop taking my medicine.
I understand that you are looking for a job in my time away from Queens, however, I was unwell and any focus had been my treatment. I¿¿m now perfectly healthy and fully stable after treatment. According to my doctor, I¿¿m now ready to return to school. I will continue seeing Dr. Nanjiani during my time at Queens. An academic plan is included with this appeal.
