Petition Letter
Dear Committee members,
I am writing to you today to request permission to add GPHY 339 to my Fall semester after the academic deadline. With the change to online learning for the fall term and the uncertainty surrounding COVID 19, I was late arriving to Kingston and settling into the new remote learning environment. Once I learned to navigate the new academic system, I discovered this past week that a course I am currently enrolled in (LISC 270) is not what I was expecting and am hoping to drop it and replace it with GPHY 339 which is much more relevant to my interests and projected career path. LISC 270 was offered as a replacement for EPID 301 and as I began the course content, I found it was dramatically different to what I had expected. Additionally, it is very similar to another course I am taking (LISC 391) and the combination of the 2 is overwhelming and has become a burden. I am a hardworking individual and under normal circumstances would be willing to persevere and give the course a chance but with the current situation surrounding the remote learning environment, I do not believe I can manage the content without the in-person aspect of the course that would have been provided for the EPID 301 course. I believe it is in my best academic and personal interest to swap courses. I tried to continue with the course as long as possible but came to the decision to switch out at the last minute and past the deadline. I recognize that I should have been more conscious of the deadline and will be more mindful of this in the future. I hope you will consider my request and I thank you for your time.
