Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to waive the 21-day deadline. I am a fourth-year student majoring in Sociology and am hoping to appeal for a Credit Standing in my classes PHIL 204, SOCY 200, and SOCY 275, which were taken in the Fall semester of 2018.
I understand this letter is getting to you much later than the initial deadline. By staying truthful, I plead my ignorance in not knowing Queen¿¿s allows their students to appeal grades past the deadline. At the time of achieving the grades which I am looking to appeal, I was dealing with extenuating circumstances which prevented me from exploring my options. The extenuating circumstances which I had been dealing with at the time had a tremendous impact on my mental health, causing me to accept my grades for what they were, without doing research regarding what could be done to save them. At the time, I was not aware appealing a grade was an option. However, as time went on, I was educated on appealing grades, but was under the impression I could only do so shortly after they were submitted and received. It was not until recently that I was made aware of the appeal to waive the 21-day deadline.
While I understand it is my responsibility as a student to explore all of my options on my own, I believe I was not given enough guidance, and was dealing with circumstances which prevented me from protecting my education and my future. I am hoping to graduate and move on with my endeavors and would hate to have circumstances which prevented me from succeeding academically in 2018 preclude me from reaching my goals. While I am a hard-working, devoted student, I, like most, have been faced with unforeseeable challenges which have had significant impacts on my studies. In writing this, I hope to be given a second chance at my studies and give my sincerest apologies for getting this letter to you this late.
