Petition Letter
Hello there,
I am writing to drop FREN 106 this semester after failing to extend my academic accommodation in time during the pandemic.
My QSAS accommodations were set to expire after August 31st this year and I would need to have my health providers to sign another Disability Documentation Form in order to start the process of extending it. However, when I called student wellness services to book appointments for medication renewal and accommodation documents I was told that the doctor I was seeing last year is not available at the time and I need to call back in a few days afterwards. Although I ended up getting medications from a walk-in clinic I failed to have accommodations for an extended period of time(September - November). I could not actually extend my accommodation until November 31st when a QSAS advisor emailed to to address the circumstances during the pandemic upon reviewing my file. But I feel like that was too late for me to reverse my academic performance affected by this during the three months when I was frustrated by this ongoing issue.
I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to get the help I need as soon as possible when some procrastination and miscommunications happened and appeals are not for the purpose of getting better academic records. Also I failed to have the support of professional letters or records(Student Wellness turned me down since there is no record for this semester). But I do feel like it would be a little bit unfair to hold the academic deadline during the pandemic when someone may not be able to connect with their health providers in time and therefore could not obtain valid documents to get help in terms of getting the full potential of their academic performance.
Thank you.
