Academic Plan
I am taking concrete steps to better my academic performance and I plan to keep taking the following steps to ensure success.
- Changing major
I plan to change my major from computing to philosophy. I believe my academic performance and grades will get tremendously better to reflect my commitment to success.
-Using my time at home to do my own studying to prepare for joining back with strength
I have been studying subjects of interest during my free time and have taken advantage of my local library by getting many books on philosophy and theology to hopefully prepare me for my term 2 classes.
-Tackle mental health issues to make sure it doesn't impact school
I have regulated my therapy sessions and I will continue to work with my psychologist to keep my mental health in check and make sure it does not negatively impact my school work. I am working with her on stress management strategies to help me take charge of my anxieties creating the right support structures for my success.
-Regulating my arthritis medication to ensure my physical health doesn't impact school
I have also regulated my medication so physical symptoms are kept to a minimum. This ensures that I can move without pain and be able to keep focused without the distraction of physical pain.
-Stabilizing my educational funding
I am in the process of getting a student line of credit and I am always on the lookout for scholarships and bursaries to apply to. This will help immensely in stabilizing my educational funding and being ready to pay back the costs as soon as I start working.
-I've reached out for help at Queen¿¿s by being referred to a mentor and counsellor and plan to regulate both to be held accountable for my plan for academic success
I¿¿ve reached out and accepted help from a mentor who I hope to speak to regularly starting next week. When I figure out what this term will look like for me academically, I plan to take consistent appointments with counselling and academic/financial advising at Queen¿¿s.
-Seeking supports from friends and family to encourage my academic success
With the help of close friends and family, I feel that I can really thrive in my academics and mental health. They can hold me accountable and help me plan a successful future.
-IEP
In high school, I had an IEP that helped me manage my anxiety and I hope to get an updated one and put that into practice for future classes. I plan for this IEP to keep me in check and help me stay consistent in school and always strive for the best results.
-Contacting professors
I am in the process of contacting the professors of my future term 2 classes to ask for their support and guidance during my transition into the class. I hope that with their support I can be at the same pace as my peers and be fully caught up in no time.
I am already following these steps and I believe that as long as I continue to do so consistently and thoroughly, I can thrive academically at Queen¿¿s University.
