Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean:
I am appealing to drop PYSC 320. My name is Zhengyu Yang and my student number is 20018464.
I switched my program plan from PSYC BAH to PSYC GENERAL at the beginning of March hence some courses are no not as crucial in my academic career as before like PSYC at 300 levels or above or courses that are important for grad school. In my case, those courses were PSYC 203 and PSYC 320, since I am not considering grad school, I decided to drop them because these courses are relatively challenging and I want to improve my GPA a little bit. They are not required for my new PSYC GENERAL program either. I believed that I did drop them on March 4. However, it seems that I only dropped PSYC 203. I wrote to the Art and Sci registration as well but they did not find my attempt at dropping PSYC 320. That confuses me because I intended to drop both of these after I switched my program, I would not drop one of them but not both of them, which is why I did not realize this was the case until today because I believed that I dropped them both but according to the system I only dropped PSYC 203.
I do not think I can finish the course because this course is quite challenging to study remotely overseas during this sensitive period of time (coronavirus). On top of that, the grade assessment is heavily relying on writing and it is not my strong suit since I am not a native English speaker, it is very difficult for me to obtain a relatively good grade from this course. My GPA is relatively low compared to average students therefore I would like to improve it a little after switching to PSYC GENERAL.
For my future academic career plan, I am planning on graduating after fall term 2021 and I currently need 18 more credits to complete my program. If I can successfully drop PYSC 320 I will need 21 more credits in total. I already started working on applying for 2 courses/ 6 credits from another institution and 1 course/ 3 credits from Queen's online summer school during the summer term, which leaves me 12 credits / 4 courses in total in the fall term 2021. I am considering choosing some electives that are less challenging so I can improve my GPA a little bit in the last term. It would be really helpful if the Associate Dean allows me to drop this course so I can boost my GPA in the last year.
Regards,
Zhengyu
