Petition Letter
Appeal
I am appealing to drop the course PHIL 157 (winter, 2021) from my current course list. I am hoping to have it struck from both my official transcript and a letter summarizing my academic standing to Dalhousie University that, as of today, has been requested and paid for. As aforementioned, I am in the midst of a transfer to Dalhousie.
Extenuating Circumstances
Earlier this year due to complications with Residence I became overwhelmed with school. As a result of this, my motivation and mental state began to decline. I tried my best to stay on top of school but some days I couldn't do it. around the middle of the school year, my grades began to slip and I quickly dropped calculus, hoping it would be enough. Following a doctor's notice to residence explaining my state at that time I was moved and things got better. Although things were improving I still felt deeply overwhelmed and behind in school. Another decision was hanging over my head, I knew I had to change programs, so I applied to Dal towards the end of February, as I was previously accepted into their Commerce program. Commerce also interests me far more.
Why Philosophy The reason I appeal to have specifically philosophy struck is that is where my state had the most impact. From the beginning of the year to right before the first term final it was my highest mark. My clouded mind made the poor decision that I was too mentally exhausted to write the final, a decision I am not proud of and the beginning of my decline in philosophy. This discouraged me even further and I let myself miss many more philosophy assignments.
After many emails & phone calls back and forth with Queens and Dal, I have received word that Dal cannot accept me until they are able to see my winter marks. As stated in the intro, the solution is to send them a letter pertaining to my academic standing.
I am committed and amplified to achieve academic success. I promise to strive to do the most I can in the coming weeks and months to accomplish my absolute best. I have made decisions that have lead me to be in a significantly better mental state than when my doctor had to inform the school. It would be crushing to hear that I was defined by my philosophy mark and that it blemished my record too deeply to have a positive letter.
Please let me know, thank you for your time.
Many Thanks & Much appreciated
