Petition Letter
Dear Academic Consideration Counsellor,
My name is Keyueqi Long (student number: 20200053), a first-year international student majoring in Psychology. I am writing to request to withdraw from all of my courses this term for my mental health condition.
Online learning has been extremely challenging for me. I am registered in 7 courses overall for this fall and winter terms, including 5 synchronized ones. Due to the time difference, I have been attending live lectures in the middle of the nights for the last few months. From last October, I started to develop stress and anxiety over my academic performance. Panic attacks and mental breakdowns have been getting more and more frequent. I am also suffering from severe insomnia to an extent that I cannot concentrate on any of my schoolwork since February.
On March 8th, I finally reached out for help from a professional and was diagnosed with mild anxiety, obsessive-compulsive symptoms and depression. The doctor suggested that I should take a rest away from my courses, and go back to school when fully recovered.
Therefore, I am wondering if I could withdraw from all of my courses (PSYC100A, SOCY122A, PIL151, GND125) for this semester. I will take my time off to receive treatment and recover. I acknowledge that the university is planning to return to in-person teaching in the upcoming fall term and hopefully by then I will be healthy enough to retake the courses.
I have attached some of the supporting documents about my condition below. Those are in Chinese but I will provide the translated version as soon as possible. Thank you so much for taking the time to review my request and helping me to get through this hard time.
Sincerely,
Keyueqi Long
