Petition Letter
Hello,
Earlier this January, I was lucky enough to attend Queen's Model Parliament conference in Ottawa. My attendance meant that I missed the add/drop period for courses, as well as the first tutorial session for POLS 244. This course studies processes of democratization around the world, with each tutorial group focusing on a different region. Upon my return to Queen's, I attended my tutorial and realized I was in an Eastern European focus group. Wishing to focus on Middle Eastern Democratization, I spoke to my teacher and tutorial leaders, and got permission to switch into another tutorial group. When I tried to make that change on SOLUS, however, I found out that I had missed the add/drop period so I was unable to re-register in the course.
I spoke to the professor about this issue and she directed me to speak with the Undergraduate Administrator for politics, who then directed me elsewhere. I misunderstood the administrator's instructions, and got into contact with my History department personnel. After a while, I realized that I needed to be speaking with the Faculty of Arts itself, and was directed to fill out an appeal.
My professor and tutorial leader are both supportive of me re-entering the course, and have been very accommodating helping me catch up with course material. I would really appreciate being allowed to re-enroll in POLS 244, as I find the material fascinating and look forward to participating once again.
Please let me know if my request will be permitted.
All the best,
Sarah Strban
