Petition Letter
To the Associate Deans Council for Appeals
The following is an appeal to drop a course past the March 5, 2021 deadline. I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in the Global Development online program. This is my first request for consideration into extenuating circumstances and I ask to be dismissed from HIST 283: Gender History in North America (Winter, 2021). I ask for this withdrawal as I am expecting a child and am experiencing extreme pregnancy sickness as well as blood pressure complications which have made both work and study very difficult. My pregnancy began in January and the sickness has worsened steadily, requiring that I temporarily take time off from both my employment and academics. I attempted to manage my situation by limiting my course load before the deadline but kept this course as I really enjoy the subject matter and instruction and had hoped a lightened schedule of two classes would be possible, which unfortunately it is not currently. I am currently enrolled in DEVS 100 but will try to complete it as it is the end of a two-term course and a major prerequisite for the Global Development program.
This is not a recurring situation and I plan to retake HIST 283 in the future. To better manage, I plan to pause my studies until pregnancy complications have lessened and then limit my course load to part time so that I can manage both health and academics.
I have attached a letter from my doctor confirming my pregnancy. If you require any further documentation, please do not hesitate to let me to know. I thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
